Old crooners, mopeds and hot air balloons

Whilst proceeding at exactly 50 mph through the M62’s gigantic (and rather boring) average speed-controlled roadworks the other day, we were reminded of what must truly be one of the best TV ads the last century had to offer. No no, we weren’t cut up rough by a blind pensioner in a Civic, instead it was that old crooner Andy Williams on the radio.
Shot and produced by W+K London for Honda, Impossible Dream is a moving tribute to the Japanese company’s varied product range, both past and present. Launched as an epic two minute spot with 10 second cut-downs later on, the concept broke new ground in TV, print and web advertising. In terms of unadulterated genius, it’s right up there with the tin aliens plugging that dreadful Smash stuff. Click on the links and marvel at something groundbreaking.
